Cool guitars and spicy cooking keep music fans well-tempered during this outdoor extravaganza.
Overview
This is the longest continuously running blues festival in the United States, drawing all-star musicians out to honor America's roots. Spectators usually number in the thousands, and headliners run the gamut from blues-based pop to pure delta soul.
The Experience
Following up the success of last year's free intro concert, a waterfront showdown--Battle of the Blues Harmonicas II--will launch three days of music from Justin Herman Plaza in downtown SF. After that, the meadow at Fort Mason hosts two days of world-class blues highlighted by appearances from Taj Mahal and hot newcomer Jackie Greene. Finally, Sunday's star-studded lineup will pay tribute to the late Mike Bloomfield of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band.
Admission: $25-45 (single day); $40-75 (two-day)
