The biggest pickin' party in the country.
The Scene
Contrary to popular belief, bluegrass existed long before "O Brother Where Art Thou?" hit the silver screen. The style--single-handedly created and named by Bill Monroe--has evolved into one of America's most popular folk derivatives. It has an especially strong fan base in the mountains and Telluride is its holy city.
The Draw
Set against the magnificent backdrop of the Rocky Mountains, this four-day festival is as much an institution as the Newport Jazz Fest, and every bit as popular. Previous festivals have seen artists like Willie Nelson, Ricky Skaggs, Emmylou Harris, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Bonnie Raitt grace these hallowed stages.
